What are computer viruses?

Computer viruses are small, annoying programs written exclusively to do harm to your computer. They are increasingly becoming very advanced and hard to spot. These little programs can do very, very nasty things to your computer, such as fool your e-mail program to re-send the virus to others. The most logically advanced I have seen so far was in April of this year, when I got an e-mail from my father. The subject line was all normal… "Re:.." something or other, and then in the body of the message there was text that the virus has downloaded from my father´s hard drive, from any old document. It was his actual writing, but not in a logical fashion. Attached to the mail was an exe-file also with a title snatched from my fathers own documents, so as to make it look authentic. In reality, it was a disguised virus…

What is Virus Protection?

A program that protects you against computer viruses by recognizing them and enabling you to remove them before they can do any harm to your computer. Computer viruses are small programs that either are sent along as attachments or sometimes even retransmit themselves by infecting files. A virus can do harm in many ways to your computer, sometimes crashing the whole system. A protection system stops all that.

Why do I need Virus Protection?

Viruses are more and more common. The Internet has enabled for them to spread with devastating speed and it is now ever more important to protect vital data. If you do get infected you can loose important data for ever and also damage your computer so seriously that it will need to be serviced. Viruses are a costly annoyance. Anti-virus programs are relatively simple to use and give you decent protection, even though you can never be entirely sure. It is important to upgrade your virus protection on a regular basis.
